The Friends of Montgomery St Park teamed up with Leith Walk Primary Parents Council to hold a third Spring community fun day to raise funds towards the park renovation project and bring local people together. The event took place in all weathers on Saturday May 28th. The event raised over a £1,000 which was donated to Leith Walk Primary, who are in turn sending investing a fifth of that in funds for Montgomery St Park.

The Montgomery St Park area is split into two areas which stretch between Elgin St (off Brunswick Rd) and Montgomery St - a tarmacadammed childrens' play area and a lower large grassy area rimmed by areas for flower beds and mature trees; these areas are split by a small brick wall and an an aluminium fence. Residents have a vision to replace the brick wall with terraced steps which will lead down from the play area opening out into the park, and have won a funding application for £40k to construct a new set of steps in place of the security fence that divides the park.

This will be the first large project to be implemented from the masterplan to improve the park and work started on Monday May 30th. The award is from WREN, (Waste Recycling Environmental Limited,) a not-for-profit business that "helps benefit the lives of people who live close to landfill sites by awarding grants for community, conservation and heritage projects".
