Dancers of various ages showed off their talents and skill as Leithers were treated to displays as diverse as belly dancing and hip hop, cheerleading and samba, while their ears were caressed by the live playing of stirring pipes, rap and R 'n' B and Brazilian samba style drumming.
Performers
danced and played on the sound stage and on the grass in front of it. They were
right in the heart of the gala surrounded by stalls, seated Leithers and a coffee,
tea and home baking marquee staffed by members of Leith churches working together. Two groups represented the growing belly dancing movement. A group of younger women were followed by five dancers led by teacher Mary Ferguson who teaches classes regularly in Leith Community Education Centre.
Young people from the Fort (pictured right,) danced hip hop style as the Open
All hours group, and rapper Mike (pictured left,) gave us a couple of numbers.
Five piece R 'n' B cover band Streetcar (pictured right,) are fronted by Susie Sue on lead vocals.
They warmed up as folk were setting up their stalls, and rounded off the pre
Parade show with a set which included hearty versions of standards including
Proud Mary, Dancing in the Streets and Everybody Needs Somebody from the Blues
Brothers.
