Dancers of various ages showed off their talents and skill as Leithers were treated to displays as diverse as belly dancing and hip hop, cheerleading and samba, while their ears were caressed by the live playing of stirring pipes, rap and R 'n' B and Brazilian samba style drumming.

Leith based Belly dancers, taught and led by Mary Ferguson (centre) Cheerleaders in silver tops and black flared trousers in a circle doing a Mexican wave with their pom poms Performers danced and played on the sound stage and on the grass in front of it. They were right in the heart of the gala surrounded by stalls, seated Leithers and a coffee, tea and home baking marquee staffed by members of Leith churches working together.

Two groups represented the growing belly dancing movement. A group of younger women were followed by five dancers led by teacher Mary Ferguson who teaches classes regularly in Leith Community Education Centre.

The shoes of Edinburgh MSP Sarah Boyack Young people from the Fort (pictured right,) danced hip hop style as the Open All hours group, and rapper Mike (pictured left,) gave us a couple of numbers.

They warmed up as folk were setting up their stalls, and rounded off the pre Parade show with a set which included hearty versions of standards including Proud Mary, Dancing in the Streets and Everybody Needs Somebody from the Blues Brothers.
