"There's nothing I've been asked to do since being elected to the Lothians region that's made me more proud than being Leith Provost for the day.
"I'm full of admiration for the work that goes into the Festival, and it was clear during the parade down Lochend Road that people still feel proud of a community that's retained its independence." Margo Macdonald, Provost of Leith for a day

There were lots of interesting photos and Ian Dick was a source of fascinating information. He explained that the mounds on Leith Links, pictured each year on Leith & North, with revellers enjoying Leith Gala Day, were actually created centuries ago to defend the siege of Leith.
Ian also recounted how The Sirius, built in Leith was the first steam ship to make a continuous steam crossing of the Atlantic, beating Brunel, and that Archibald Renton of Leith Athletic was the first man to score a League goal from a penalty, back in 1891. Malcolm Chisholm, MSP for Edinburgh North & Leith can be seen visiting the stall on the previous page.
