The 3,000 strong Gude Cause Centenary March continued from Edinburgh's Meadows past Greyfriars Bobby, down the Royal Mile and down the North Bridge to Calton Hill. The tram works denied the chance to recreate the original march along Princes St, but Edinburgh is not wanting for historic and picturesque backdrops, as Leith & North's photos show.

"As we go marching, marching, unnumbered women dead
Go crying through our singing their ancient call for bread.
Small art and love and beauty their drudging spirits knew.
Yes, it is bread we fight for, but we fight for roses too."
James Oppenheim, 1911
